About Us

The Genesis of Scouting and Guiding in the World

The Bharat Scouts and Guides is a voluntary, non-political, and secular organization registered under the Societies Registration Act, with its Karnataka State headquarters in Bengaluru.

The Scout Movement began in 1907 when Robert Baden-Powell conducted an experimental camp with 21 boys at Brownsea Island. Its success, along with his book Scouting for Boys (1908), laid the foundation of the movement.

A major milestone followed with the 1909 rally at Crystal Palace, attended by around 11,000 Scouts. The participation of girls at this event led to the creation of the Girl Guides Movement in 1910, with the support of Agnes Baden-Powell.
